Until recently, this site has been mainly directed to a narrow audience of persons who are students of the bark and ambrosia beetles. Recent changes to the section on the "Bark and Ambrosia Beetles of the Southeastern U.S.", especially improvements in the way that images are linked to species and the addition of distribution maps has made that section more useful to a wider group of people. In the relatively near future I expect to start adding more information biology and habits to continue expanding in this direction.
Over the years I have worked extensively on the bark and ambrosia beetles. My efforts have been on again, off again, mainly due to career changes and relocations. In general I find that my pace of publication strongly lags my accumulation of information. This web site is intended to make this information, even the unpublished part, available to those working on the group who have an interest in keeping up. At the moment, the most immediately useful will probably be the image galleries. I have accumulated a large number of original photographs created with SEM and optical microscopy, to which I am gradually adding scanned images. The goal is to eventually gather all useful images for the New World. Aside from my own images, I would be pleased to host anyone else's images here as well. In addition to images that I have generated myself, I have begun to add scanned illustrations from older publications where copyright is not an issue or with the permission of authors.
Almost by definition, this site and associated pages will always be a work in progress. Once the information is posted, I can't control how viewers use it. I would strongly suggest that the information not be quoted without contacting me. The posted information may not be the most current. Feel free to contact me with questions, comments, and suggestions.
